What’s Making My Light Bulb Flicker?

What’s Making My Light Bulb Flicker?

By far one of the most common reasons for a light bulb to flicker is that it simply isn’t seated right.

It’s a pretty common occurrence in many homes: one day you turn on your lamp or other light fixture, only to discover that one of the light bulbs is starting to flicker. So, annoyed, you turn off the power and proceed to change the bulb. Sometimes, the flicker is actually caused by the need for a new light bulb but that’s actually not always the case. Here are a couple of common reasons for a lightbulb to flicker.

Is it seated properly?

By far one of the most common reasons for a light bulb to flicker is that it simply isn’t seated right. Many times, if a bulb isn’t in just the right way then it will start to flicker. Instead of just trying to tighten the bulb, take it completely out of the fixture and take a minute to make sure the threads are lined up exactly the way they should be.

Is something wrong with your light switch?

Another common cause of flickering is a faulty switch. If you have an on/off switch that is starting to wear out, it may not make all of the connections that it should in order to function properly. If the switch is on the light itself, then check with the manufacturer for replacement instructions. If it is flickering because of a faulty wall switch, call TriStar Electric today and one of our expert technicians will happily replace it for you!

Do you just need a new lightbulb?

Sometimes the simplest answer is actually the correct one, and it is just time for a new bulb. However, if you replace the bulb and it still flickers or it burns out faster than normal then you will need to investigate further.
