Children are super curious by nature. When you’ve got little ones around, it’s especially important to be vigilant about safety in all parts of your home. One aspect of your home that can be especially dangerous for your tiny humans is the electrical outlets. Tiny hands that are learning everything they can about everything that they can reach will be especially curious about those random holes in your walls. Here are some tips for childproofing the electrical outlets in your home.
Tamper Resistant Outlets
Those curious little hands will likely shove fingers, toys, and anything else they can reach into electrical outlets. This is why tamper resistant outlets were created. These outlets have specially designed shutters that block the holes and stop the flow of electricity unless something is properly plugged in. In order to open the shutters, a grown-up would have to apply even pressure to the buttons on either side. Some areas are actually requiring tamper-resistant (TR) outlets to be installed into newer and renovated homes.
Plastic Covers
If replacing all the outlets in your home isn’t possible for one reason or another, there are several different types of plastic covers you can add to outlets to make them save. When the little ones are super little, the ones that just pop into the socket are generally plenty. However, babies and toddlers learn with dizzying speed so something a bit more difficult to remove is a much safer idea.
