The Pros of Installing Recessed Lighting in Your Home

The Pros of Installing Recessed Lighting in Your Home

Recessed lighting could add a touch of sophistication to the space while also remaining relatively discreet.

When building or renovating your home, there is a lot of emphasis on lighting fixtures. These elements of décor could change the ambiance of your room. For example, recessed lights could add a touch of sophistication to the space while also remaining relatively discreet. Read on for a few reasons why these types of lighting fixtures are gaining popularity and why you should consider installing them!

Recessed Lighting is Energy-Efficient

Traditional light fixtures are known to waste plenty of energy. This is mainly because they have unsealed canisters that allow warm air to escape from the light bulb. They are also uninsulated because covering them would pose a serious fire hazard. This means there is a gap in the ceiling insulation where the fixture is attached. Recessed ceiling lighting counters these problems. Their insulation contact (IC) rating means that they can be covered without causing a fire. It also shows that they’re airtight and will keep heat from ever escaping.

Taking Up Less Space

A common complaint about ordinary light fixtures is that they take up too much ceiling space. As a result, they may not be the best choice for low ceilings and narrow spaces. A great alternative would be to install a set of recessed lights. These lights are designed to fit flush with the ceiling, eliminating the visual clutter of any hanging lights. They work great in smaller spaces like pantries and closets. Unfortunately, not all ceilings can accommodate recessed lights. Those with elaborate moldings, for example, could get damaged during the installation process. Call a certified and qualified electrician from TriStar Electric to see if the ceiling is suitable for these fixtures.

Improved Flexibility

Recessed lights offer better flexibility than standard ceiling lights, which require a specific bulb. Four kinds of light bulbs are available for this. One is known as an “R” or reflector bulb that has a mirrored surface on the back. There’s also an incandescent bulb, which is usually cheaper than the standard version. Halogens also come as floodlights or spotlights. Then, there is the low-voltage option, which is designed to save energy. Remember that low-voltage light bulbs require a special transformer, so it would be wise to consult with an electrician before you install these.
