There are many reasons why a generator could stop working.
Commercial generators are some of the best ways to keep your business running if a power outage ever happens. There are many reasons why a generator could stop working. Depending on the work you do, a lack of power could only be a small inconvenience. If your business or home needs electricity to maintain safety, it could be dangerous if your generator stops working. Read on to learn more!
Reasons for a Failed Generator
A generator is a very finely tuned machine that will need to be maintained if you want it to work properly. If your generator stops working, there are a couple of things you could do to troubleshoot it on your own, or you could call the professionals from TriStar Electric to do it for you.
Battery Problems
As time passes, the battery in your generator starts to wear out and not hold any charge. Charge the battery and check to see if it will start the generator. If not, then have your battery checked to replace it if required. If you do not use your generator for long periods, then the battery will start to lose its charge eventually.
No Maintenance or Upkeep
If you do not maintain your generator, unexpected issues could happen. Have your generator inspected once a year to make sure it’s in good shape and has no worn or damaged parts that might cause it to break down. A lack of consistent maintenance could lead to different issues.
Leaks
Leaking oil and fuel is going to lead to issues with your generator. Look out for wet areas on the engine itself, or look for spots that appear underneath the engine when it is running or if it’s been sitting in one spot for an extended time. Keep a close eye out for leaks, especially if the generator sits idle for very long periods of time.
Emptied Fuel Tanks
If you try to start your engine and it only cranks, you first need to check the fuel tank. This could be because the gas line connecting to your home is experiencing issues, or your propane tank has run empty. Either way, you should make sure there is a steady supply of fuel in your generator at all times.
