As you take the time to untangle that bird’s nest of string lights, consider the necessary measures to take to ensure the safety of your home and family. Indoor Lights and Electrical Decorations Safety
Decorative lights and other electrical decorations add to the splendor of the season. However, if not used safely, they can increase the risk of fire and electrical issues. When it comes to holiday lights, only use lights approved for safe use by a nationally recognized testing laboratory. Never connect more than three strands of lights together, and consider purchasing LED lights to reduce the amount of energy used in your household. LED lights also run cooler than traditional incandescent lights. Do not mount or support light strings in a way that would damage the cord’s insulation and please remember to unplug your holiday wonderland before replacing bulbs or fuses.
Christmas Tree Safety
When deciding on a tree for the living room, stay away from older, dried-out trees. These trees ignite and burn much faster than those that are freshly cut and well hydrated. As you shop for a tree this season, ensure that the needs are fresh, green, and firmly attached to the branches. Check that the tree trunk’s cut surface is sticky to the touch. Skip all of the hassles by opting for a flame resistant fake tree instead!
