Summer is heating up here in Maryland, and we’ve already seen temperatures well into the 90s. Keeping our homes cool during those super-hot days is a big job for our AC units, and it can get very expensive. Here are some tips for maximizing your AC this summer without breaking the bank!
Turn Off the Oven
One thing that will heat your house up in a hurry is cooking. Whether you’re turning on the oven or the stove, the warmth affects more than just the kitchen. This summer, try some meals that don’t require a stove or oven. Salads are a delicious, healthy choice. Cooking meals in your slow cooker or plug-in pressure cooker can also turn out some great meals without turning up the heat.
Check Your Windows
While your windows may look closed, they could still be causing the temperature in your home to rise. There are actually a couple of ways that heat could be sneaking in. First of all, that natural sunlight coming in is also warming the air. When the sun is facing your windows, you might want to close the blinds to try and stop some of that heat. In fact, a great way to keep out the heat so your AC unit doesn’t have to work so hard is to invest in some energy efficient curtains. If you need some help detecting “hot spots” in your home, contact TriStar Electric for your home energy assessment.
Install Ceiling Fans
Last, and most certainly not least are ceiling fans. Ceiling fans are an invaluable tool when it comes to keeping your home cool. Your AC unit could be the most efficient one available, but it still uses more energy than a ceiling fan. TriStar Electric can install all of your home’s ceiling fans to help your home stay cool! Your ceiling fans can circulate air from your AC vents super quickly, to cool the space without turning the thermostat way down.
