Lighting Controls: 3 Different Types of Residential Lighting

Lighting Controls: 3 Different Types of Residential Lighting

The moon won’t always show up from behind the clouds, so here are some different types of residential lighting you know you can depend on!

How do you light up your life? While there are plenty of ways to invite more natural light into your home, using artificial light can help after the sun goes down. The moon won’t always show up from behind the clouds, so here are some different types of residential lighting you know you can depend on

Ambient

First up is ambient lighting. Ambient means that it lights up the entire room or the entire floor of your home all at once. It also provides light around the exterior of your home. Even with ambient lighting in place, you might still want to use landscape lighting or motion-sensor lights outside. These setups can illuminate landscape and hardscape features you are proud of and help discourage intruders from trying to sneak onto your property.

Task

The second type of residential lighting is called task lighting. Although it might not sound as impressive as ambient or accent lighting, it is still useful. Use it to light up a storage closet or over the stove. Task lighting is also helpful when you need to fold laundry or wash the dishes. Task lighting in the bathroom also makes it easier to groom yourself when you are getting ready to face the day. Floor lamps, recessed lights, and undercabinet-mounted lights are more examples of task lighting.

Accent

As we mentioned above, accent lighting is something else that counts as residential lighting. Use it to spotlight artwork or other pieces of decoration you are proud of – even glow in the dark decorations can count as accent lighting if you use it correctly! Plus, think about string lights that you can put in a bookcase to help highlight the items in your collection, whether they are antiques or simply items that hold sentimental value for you and your family!
