We love our furry friends! Dogs and cats are just as much parts of the family as human family members. As anyone with fur-kids knows, there are a few special safety concerns that go along with them. If you live in a pet-friendly home, follow these tips to keep your furry friends safe!
Dangling Cords and Chewing
To your furry friend, those colorful power cords that are dangling from everywhere look like toys. Your cat may think that it’s a fun string to play with and chase, while your teething puppy will see another chew toy. Because of their string-like nature, power cords also pose a significant risk of animals getting tangled in them and possible strangulation. Sounds scary, right? Fortunately, keeping pets safe from power cords is actually pretty easy. In areas such as a desk or entertainment center, use zip ties to bundle up the excess cord. If zip ties aren’t an option, you can fasten the cords to your furniture safely and securely so no one gets any ideas.
New Things
You probably have a number of electronics plugged in all the time that your pets don’t really mess with. They’re just seen as normal parts of the home. However, if there’s something new introduced that may be a different story. Our furry friends are curious and want to know what has been brought into their home. For example, for most of the year, your cat is relatively calm. They lay around most of the time an occasionally have bursts of energy at three in the morning. Then, when the holidays roll around and you put up a tree your cat suddenly becomes VERY interested. It’s just because there’s a new thing. If you’re introducing a new electrical element into your home, keep an eye on your pets to make sure they aren’t going to bother it.
