Three Common Reasons Why Your Light Bulbs Frequently Go Out

If you are experiencing that your light bulbs burn out quicker than usual, this can be beyond frustrating. Not only can it be frustrating constantly to change your light bulbs, but it also poses a potential fire hazard. If your bulbs constantly go out in your home, there could be deeper problems within your electrical system. Listed below are some common issues that play a role in your bulbs flaming out.

These are some common reasons why your bulbs burn out.

The Voltage Is Too High

If your home’s supply voltage is higher than expected, your lights will likely burn out much faster than the regular light bulb. You can take measures to test your voltage to ensure that it is not too high. You would need a multimeter or a voltage tester. Before checking, though, you should be sure to make sure to take the necessary safety measures. You can also reach out to the trusted professionals at Tri Star Electic to conduct the testing for you.

Using The Wrong Kind Of Light Bulbs

One type of light bulb that goes out frequently is CFL. Compact fluorescent bulbs have a reputation for going out quickly. If you use that particular light bulb style, you should consider switching to LED bulbs as they are more reliable, durable, and environmentally friendly. If you are using a 60-watt lamp with a 120-watt light bulb, there is a high chance of burnout because of the extra heat that is produced. You should always look to check that the wattage of your bulb isn’t higher than the recommended number for your lighting fixture.

Flickering Light Bulbs

Any time that your light bulbs flicker, there is a good chance that they are likely too lose. By making sure that bulbs are tight you can easily fix this issue. There could also be an instance of a loose wire connection. In order to check you can turn off the power and look at the connection between the bulb and fixture. The socket of a lot of fixtures can wear down and become ineffective.
