4 Reasons Your Doorbell Isn’t Working

4 Reasons Your Doorbell Isn’t Working

If you’re having issues with a malfunctioning doorbell, call TriStar Electric today!

Homeowners will take their doorbell for granted. This means that they always assume nothing can happen to it. But when doorbells stop working, it can be more of a headache than you might realize. Let’s take a better look at some of the reasons why your doorbell isn’t working the way it is supposed to anymore.

The Button is Damaged

The button could be damaged or destroyed. One way to check is to remove the button and look at the wires behind it. If you are unsure of how to do this or are afraid of injury, then it’s a sign you should call a professional electrician to come and take care of it. If the wires are out of place, then it could be why the bell isn’t sounding. Even so, if the button has stopped working, then you need to replace it as soon as you can.

The Unit is Compromised

The doorbell unit itself can stop working for one reason or another. Look at the bell unit or the chime housing. Anything loose or rusted-out can also be the culprits behind whatever is wrong. A low-voltage tester can help you determine what happened, but it might just need a cleaning. Even so, there comes a time when you will need to replace your existing doorbell.

The Transformer Isn’t Working

Let’s say that the transformer isn’t working. This can interfere with how well the bell works. At this point, you will begin to encounter higher-voltages. Since this process can be tricky and risky, you are far better off entrusting this task to a certified, licensed, and experienced electrician.

The Wires are Frayed

Your doorbell needs intact wires to operate. If something goes wrong with the cables, then something will go wrong with the bell itself. Even a small problem can’t be overlooked, because it is enough to keep the signal from ringing and that can bring a set of issues all on its own.
