Choosing an Electric Heater

Cold weather is coming, and there’s no reason you can’t be ready to ride it out in comfort thanks to electrical heating services like those provided by Tristar Electric. However, there are a lot of options when it comes to augmenting or changing your household heating system, so to help make sense of your choices, here’s a breakdown of what you (with the help of some experienced electrical professionals) can do to make sure your home feels warm and cozy this year.

Electric Baseboards: Electric baseboard heaters are inexpensive to produce and easy to install, making them a cheap initial-cost option for most new homes. Baseboard heaters work via a combination of convection and radiation. Radiation will heat objects while convection heats the air. Baseboard heaters are quiet, with a slow gentle airflow that is often barely perceptible. To get the most out of baseboard heaters make sure the walls onto which they are being installed are properly insulated and that the airflow from the heater will not be obstructed by curtains or furniture. Baseboard Heaters also allow more exact control over which parts of the house are heated at any given time, so unused rooms can be kept cool until they are needed.

Forced Air Electric: Forced Air Electric systems operate by connecting a fan to a heating element which responds to commands from the thermostat. When activated, the element heats air that the fan circulates throughout the house. Forced Air Electric systems are often a little noisier than baseboard heaters and their cost of installation is higher, but their operating cost is typically far lower and can save you money in the long run while still keeping your house warm. Be sure that any ductwork running through uninsulated areas of the house is properly insulated.

Electric Heated Tile Floors or Mats: Tired of getting out of a nice warm shower to have your feet greeted by ice cold tile? Consider installing electric heated tile floors or bathroom mats. Configurable to almost any floor plan, these heating systems will make sure that your once cold and uncomfortable floors now radiate warmth and comfort whenever you need them to.
